Actus n°22 - Coming Back for 2026 🔥 the recap !

Cybersecurity, Containerization, Open Source, Digital Transformation

Introduction

We are BACK ! Hello everyone. Today we will discuss about several topics: Cybersecurity, Containerisation, Open Source, Digital Transformation, Edge Connectivity. So let's start first with Cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity

One new that went out in December last year was this cyber attack against a Scada system. SCADA systems are used to monitor factories and that one was hacked by some Russian hackers of course. But the funny thing here I wanted to show you is that this looks like a very old ancient SCADA system. I wanted to share with you because it's recent but also because it helps me to make an introduction about cybersecurity this year.

Containerization

I had another proof last year that it's important for us to at least know how to use docker, to use containers to put application inside uh containerized environment. You all know Siemens. Even Siemens themselves are trying or starting to put things into containers. So that's the second thing I wanted to show you. That one is about the new container for winCCOA. You guys probably know Winc the like classical version. There is OA which is open architecture version of wincc. And then last year they have put out their docker image or the container version of winoa. Because of problem that we encounter with traditionnal software or traditional VM, they have decided to put in place a container for that. They explain you step by step how to do it quickly with simple tools like Portainer which is an orchestration to manage dockers and to manage containers. if you want to know how to use Docker, you can check this video.

Open Source

The third topic is Open Source. Mostly, in manufacturing or on industrial application we have been used closed source or commercial application because they are so-called professional. The only thing that people don't know about open source is that maybe it's the most professional part because it has the opportunity to be checked and reviewed by many experts.

So sometimes an opensource tool doesn't mean it's cheap or it's like nonprofessional. Sometime it's even better than you know the commercial tool that you don't have opportunity to upgrade or to maintain or even to review in terms of robustness.

You all know Arduino and last semester Arduino sent a news about like the purchase of Arduino by Qualcomm is mostly a telecom company. They stating they're going to turn Arduno into like some edge computing with open source innovation.

Digital Transformation

The fourth news : Digital Transformation. We talk a lot about that. You will see more and more applications where they tell you digital tool or digital technology is going to transform and replace and solve all our problems, which is not the truth. You will see more and more factories like this one: Dark factories

They called it a dark factory because you can put it in the dark it will keep working because there is no human inside. But the real thing behind all of those technology thing is the topic like is technology going to change everything in manufacturing. Is technology the only solutions to all the problems that we have in manufacturing ?

It important to understand what's what we mean be behind digital transformation and even what we mean by transformation. This means that instead of just being an engineer technician into our applications and we are heads down into our development sometimes and I think more and more in this new era. We will need to put our foot into some management discussion, maybe some leadership meetings, maybe some product project leadership just to also understand what's what is at stake, what we can do to bring some change and then maybe it will transform also our own work.

I get convinced that yes it was important for us to have a strong technical background but what will make the difference and what already did the difference in 2025 and it will continue is that now the difference will be on the side of those who are able to take the bigger picture um and it's more it's it's even more relevant now that we have AI capable of doing some stuff for us uh it will really make a big gap between someone who can understand the topic of transformation, leadership, management, project leadership and those who just stay on the technical side, you will see a gap
